Simple and Safe Way to Braze Sealed Refrigeration Systems

AmerBeautyLogoMost recently demonstrated at the USA convention in Orlando, Florida, American Beauty Tools’ resistance brazing system (Model 10557-C) which continues to amaze and delight appliance servicers across North America.

American Beauty’s most popular brazing system is its 1,800 Watt system which features three unique output settings easily capable of generating enough heat to flow even the highest silver content brazing alloys.   The system comes complete with two different hand pieces, small and large, to ensure maximum versatility.

The magic of a resistance brazing system is the speed with which the heat to flow the braze alloy is generated.  By design, a low voltage, high amperage user safe current is forced through highly resistive electrodes, generating instantaneous heat.  There is absolutely no flame involved, making the system perfectly suitable for buildings that have restricted the use of torches.  Servicers have found that eliminating the torch from their brazing operations, greatly reduces the amount of thermal damage caused to surrounding components and housings and the associated costs of such damage both in terms of money and reputation.  One final benefit is just how easy the system is to use, reducing time (and frustration) training new employees on the use of a torch.   If you were one of the many folks at the convention that gave the system a test run, you’ll know exactly what we mean.

The specialty transformer that is the heart of the system is encased in a heavy-duty steel enclosure, protecting your investment for years to come.  The system is warrantied from manufacturer defect for three years; however, this is a tool that will pass from technician to technician for years to come.  A convenient carrying compartment is built into the housing to allow for storage of the hand pieces.  The robust nature of the brazing electrodes results in lower overall consumable costs than those associated with torch systems.

United Servicers Association members are eligible to purchase this system which usually retails at $1,675, for the special discounted price of $1,150.  Don’t miss out on this limited time offer to experience what everybody else has been talking about.  Order your American Beauty Resistance Brazing System today at www.americanbeautytools.com/brazing  or call at 800.550.2510.

Samsung Training in High Demand at ASTI 2013 Convention

By Nick Webert, Samsung Regional Technical Trainer

Samsung classSamsung was a very large presence at the 2013 ASTI/USA Convention held in Orlando, FL on March 6th and 7th.  The convention hosted about 600 technicians and business owners from all over North America.  Samsung held training classes on both laundry and refrigeration products. These classes were taught in four hour sessions, twice each day.

We are pleased to report that there was an enormous demand for Samsung product training and that more techs attended our training classes than the classes of any other manufacturer at the convention.  Samsung trained about 200 techs in those four classes, making many sessions standing room only.  Even with such a large number of attendees in each class, Samsung’s training surveys came back with the highest marks of the convention.

Samsung would like to thank all those who have attended our classes over the last couple of years for helping us sculpt our training skills.  Without your attendance and comments, we could have never raised our training skills to this level.  These skills resulted in Samsung receiving the ASTI/USA Partner award.  So when I say thank you, I also mean congratulations!  “Why congratulations?” you ask. Because you are part of the Samsung team, so the award belongs to you as much as us.

The ASTI Partner Award is bestowed on companies for excellence in technical and administrative training and for supporting ASTI/USA through information sharing and relationship building.   Samsung’s support has helped ASTI/USA grow into the largest appliance servicer organization in North America.

USA’s ASTI 2013 Brings Together Independent Trainers of the Industry

Training2Orlando, March 2013: ASTI 2013, known for its outstanding ability to assemble training and networking events in the Appliance Service Industry, has yet another success story to tell:  bringing together three leading independent industry trainers.

In speaking together for the first time in person, these three unique businesses realized that they offer very different products; rather than compete, they can collaborate in the future, as independent businesses to provide the knowledge necessary to the industry’s technicians. Fred’s Appliance Academy, Jerry Frear Training Associates, and Level 2 Learning had an opportunity to meet in person and assemble a round table meeting to discuss the needs of the Independent Appliance Servicer. The three discussed how they could improve training in the industry with tech rides and product training from Level 2 Learning; with Jerry Frear’s webinars, such as online schematic training, and with Fred’s Appliance Academy’s in classroom, hands-on training.

Richard J. Sedlack, owner of Level 2 Learning, (www.level2learning.com) stated, “When I arrived I met Fred for the first time, and I knew Jerry when he was a trainer for Marcone – and then the light bulb went off.  Jerry has mastered the art of delivering technical information in webinars, Fred has grown his Academy through hard work and proven techniques with manufacturers’ support, and Level 2 provides on location hands-on training as well as business consulting.”

Jerry Frear, owner of Jerry Frear Training, (www.jerryfreartraining.com):  “I see the need every day for experienced appliance technicians.  Now there is a way of getting them excellent training with our training companies. Fred’s Academy with classroom and hands-on learning and Level 2 with on-location hands-on training. Jerry Frear Training will show you how with: Live Webinar Sessions, and On-Demand Video. Our goal is to provide you with knowledge so you continue to GROW with the industry. This knowledge will make you money and save time, because your technicians will be more efficient in the diagnosis and repair of the appliances they work on.”

Fred Butcher, owner and instructor at Fred’s Appliance Academy, (www.fredsappliance.com): “Fred’s Appliance Academy offers a diverse technical training program that covers all aspects of appliance repair. Our hands-on program provides students with the basic skills and experience to service all major appliances, from washing machines and dryers, to ranges and refrigerators. Our classroom offers state of the art equipment. In addition, we manufacture specialty tools to make the technician’s job of diagnosing more efficient. Our goal is to provide a path for the new and experienced technician – assisting them to obtain the knowledge and tools necessary to become a Master Technician.”

Please feel free to contact these businesses to discuss your training needs.

GE ImaginationGE Customer Care Servicers

Date:  26 February 2013

Re:  2013 GE Appliances Service Technical Assistance Subscription Updates

GE Appliances strives to provide the highest quality assistance to our service network.  To achieve this goal we are implementing changes to   our Technical Assistance Group (TAG) and 24/7 Customer.net service website.

Over the next few months our service network will experience improved call prioritization on service support requests coming into TAG and a more user friendly interface to our service web-site.  We recognize these actions are critical to enabling technician productivity gains and ensuring a positive service experience for our consumers.

GE offers a service subscription package for our authorized Customer Care network.   This package allows servicers unlimited access to TAG for in-warranty and out-of-warranty service support during our normal hours of operation.  The subscription package also allows 24/7 access to our service web site.

For the first time in more than 7 years we are implementing a fee increase for our service subscription package.  Service Subscription fees beginning April 1, 2013 are:

Authorized Servicers

                                  1 to 4 technicians $250 annual

                                  5 to 9 technicians $300

                                  10 or more technicians $350

TAG will support In-warranty product calls from authorized servicers and servicing dealers without a subscription. Payment    of the subscription fee is mandatory for all out-of-warranty TAG support.

We understand our service network needs to continuously have accurate and timely technical information for in-warranty and out-of-warranty service.  Service Subscription fees enable our team to drive continuous improvement for product service technical support through-out the value stream.

Using the Tech Sheet Schematic to Root Out Appliance Gremlins

By Samurai Appliance Repair Man, www.Appliantology.org

ZZ10261EC7We all love those jobs where, given the brand, model, and problem description, you walk into the house already knowing what the problem is.  But what about those jobs where it’s not a clear case of plug n’ chug, in other words, where you DON’T know exactly what part to replace to fix the problem?  Well, that may be when you have to use the tech sheet schematic, your trusty meter, and that gray swirling muck betwixt your ears to track down a pesky electrical problem. In this excursion into Appliantological Excellence, we’re going to review three recent service calls I did on two refrigerators and a front load washer where I used the tech sheet schematic to ruthlessly hunt down the troublesome gremlins and terminate them with extreme prejudice.  Come with me now on a journey of Total Appliance Enlightenment™…
