What’s the Real Power of a Press Release for Marketing Your Business?

By Mark Maupin, Right Now Marketing Group, LLC

Newspaper2Press releases are clearly defined as a tool for communicating a specific message concerning your business.  The press release is your tool for letting the world know about special newsworthy events, policy changes, awards, advancements, etc.  Good news about your firm draws consumer attention & can enhance your status in your industry; but the benefits of good press don’t stop there…

When a professionally written release is properly distributed – it not only gets the direct attention of a broad audience of consumers – it helps to build up a reputation for your firm (and your website) as being an authoritative source on your area of expertise.  When you issue a press release online, you are able to add very specific and focused keywords that relate to your business and your service/distribution area.  When the PR goes out, these keywords are “crawled” (or reviewed) by automatic programming from popular search engines like Google.  As these reviews occur, the search engine begins to recognize your company as being attached to a wealth of information & news on the various topics  (services) that you cover.  On top of that, the keywords and related terms within each of your press releases will provide direct live links to your firm’s website.

Now comes the good part.  As your firm is recognized as an authoritative source – you start to gain Google’s respect and become more important to them.  Here’s why: Google (and their competitors) want to be known as search engines that give the public what they want; that means providing the most relevant results for the billions of searches that take place each day.  Let’s say your company is considered an authority on widgets in Southfield Michiganwhen a consumer goes online looking for  widgets in Southfield Michigan - the search engines will point to you; getting you in front of potential clients and making the search engine look like the hero.

So, what goes into a press release,  you wonder.  The answer is fairly simple, but still requires a great deal of consideration and experience. A good press release should first grab the reader’s (and search engines’) attention with a well-conceived title.  Then there is the body of the release – which tells the who, why, what, when, where & how – concerning your company‘s news.  The body is followed up by a boilerplate (which is your firm’s pitch telling why you are the best at what you do), and finally – your business contact information (allowing an immediate connection).

Constructing and issuing a press release is a fairly straight-forward process for the experienced, but comes with a huge learning curve for the novice.  The structure for the release has to fit certain requirements in order to be published on popular news distribution sites (like eMailWire or PRBuzz).  Each of these fee-based distribution services has stringent editorial controls that must be passed before a press release is accepted.  Their rules have to be adhered to in order to gain access to their audiences of thousands of reporters and writers (who can advance your story by further disseminating your report and writing related articles).

Now you have a clearer picture of the process of utilizing a press release to get your company recognized, but keep in mind that this is not a just add water solution; it will require some degree of creativity to develop newsworthy stories, skills to properly format them for distribution, a roughly $100 (per news site) cash outlay for distribution and quite a bit of patience and time – to do it over and over again – while your site climbs through the search engine ranks… Or, you can just call a pro (Right Now Marketing) and put the task in their experienced hands while you get back to running your business.

At’Cher Service: Call to Action for Oklahoma Disaster Area

OklahomaOver the last few days there have been some terrible storms and a tornado in the Oklahoma area. The coverage on the news shows just horrific damage, not only to the residents’ homes and personal property, but also a huge distress to them physically and emotionally.

At this time people want to help; I want to help. I am a small business owner and donations in the form of money are not enough.   I am considering donating the services of 2 techs, myself and lead installer as well as a few units as well as all the parts and Freon our two service trucks can hold.  I am looking to find a contractor in the Oklahoma area who is willing to take our services and materials and help donate them to the Moore Oklahoma residents. I can bring a trailer with some appliances such as refrigerators, 2-5 ton R410a, new Trane units, and 2-R-22 heat pumps, as well as 150lbs of r-22. We can install, repair and refurbish A/C systems and appliances. I have several A/C and domestic refrigerator compressors we can donate and install.

I can offer a few days of time to a HVAC contractor who is willing to help out their fellow residents.   At a time like this, it’s hard to comfort people, but we have some way of at least making them a little MOORE comfortable. The staff with At’Cher Service A/C and Appliance want to help, can you folks help us help them?

I can be reached at 702-538-2340 (cell) 702-633-7568 (office) or kjagmin@hotmail.com

Thank you –Ken and the staff at At’Cher Service

Simple and Safe Way to Braze Sealed Refrigeration Systems

AmerBeautyLogoMost recently demonstrated at the USA convention in Orlando, Florida, American Beauty Tools’ resistance brazing system (Model 10557-C) which continues to amaze and delight appliance servicers across North America.

American Beauty’s most popular brazing system is its 1,800 Watt system which features three unique output settings easily capable of generating enough heat to flow even the highest silver content brazing alloys.   The system comes complete with two different hand pieces, small and large, to ensure maximum versatility.

The magic of a resistance brazing system is the speed with which the heat to flow the braze alloy is generated.  By design, a low voltage, high amperage user safe current is forced through highly resistive electrodes, generating instantaneous heat.  There is absolutely no flame involved, making the system perfectly suitable for buildings that have restricted the use of torches.  Servicers have found that eliminating the torch from their brazing operations, greatly reduces the amount of thermal damage caused to surrounding components and housings and the associated costs of such damage both in terms of money and reputation.  One final benefit is just how easy the system is to use, reducing time (and frustration) training new employees on the use of a torch.   If you were one of the many folks at the convention that gave the system a test run, you’ll know exactly what we mean.

The specialty transformer that is the heart of the system is encased in a heavy-duty steel enclosure, protecting your investment for years to come.  The system is warrantied from manufacturer defect for three years; however, this is a tool that will pass from technician to technician for years to come.  A convenient carrying compartment is built into the housing to allow for storage of the hand pieces.  The robust nature of the brazing electrodes results in lower overall consumable costs than those associated with torch systems.

United Servicers Association members are eligible to purchase this system which usually retails at $1,675, for the special discounted price of $1,150.  Don’t miss out on this limited time offer to experience what everybody else has been talking about.  Order your American Beauty Resistance Brazing System today at www.americanbeautytools.com/brazing  or call at 800.550.2510.

Two USA Members Accepted into SBA Emerging Leaders Program

By Manny Ortega, Ortega’s Appliance Service Today

E200 LogoThe U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) launched its 2013 Emerging Leaders executive-level training initiative, formerly known as e200, in 27 cities and communities across the country.  Since 2008 the initiative has trained more than 1,300 promising small business owners in underserved communities, and continues to expand its impact helping small businesses grow and create jobs.

Exciting news!  Two USA members, Jeff Dar in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Bob Wennerstrom in Bayfield, Colorado have been accepted into the program.  The opportunity for anyone to join this great program and others is available to many.  I recommend to anyone wanting to improve the way they run their business to look for educational programs in their area; many are free.

Bob Wennerstrom from Bayfield, Colorado made the commitment to travel over an hour each way to attend class.  Congratulations to both.

The seven-month executive leader curriculum includes approximately 100 hours of classroom time per participant.   The SBA Emerging Leaders (e200) Initiative is a federal training initiative that specifically focuses on executives of businesses poised for growth in historically challenged communities. The initiative provides these executives with the organizational framework, resource network, and motivation required to build sustainable businesses and promote the economic development within urban communities.

For more information about Emerging Leaders, or to contact the respective local SBA District office in your area go to

Samsung Training in High Demand at ASTI 2013 Convention

By Nick Webert, Samsung Regional Technical Trainer

Samsung classSamsung was a very large presence at the 2013 ASTI/USA Convention held in Orlando, FL on March 6th and 7th.  The convention hosted about 600 technicians and business owners from all over North America.  Samsung held training classes on both laundry and refrigeration products. These classes were taught in four hour sessions, twice each day.

We are pleased to report that there was an enormous demand for Samsung product training and that more techs attended our training classes than the classes of any other manufacturer at the convention.  Samsung trained about 200 techs in those four classes, making many sessions standing room only.  Even with such a large number of attendees in each class, Samsung’s training surveys came back with the highest marks of the convention.

Samsung would like to thank all those who have attended our classes over the last couple of years for helping us sculpt our training skills.  Without your attendance and comments, we could have never raised our training skills to this level.  These skills resulted in Samsung receiving the ASTI/USA Partner award.  So when I say thank you, I also mean congratulations!  “Why congratulations?” you ask. Because you are part of the Samsung team, so the award belongs to you as much as us.

The ASTI Partner Award is bestowed on companies for excellence in technical and administrative training and for supporting ASTI/USA through information sharing and relationship building.   Samsung’s support has helped ASTI/USA grow into the largest appliance servicer organization in North America.
